ZGCINE ZG-R30 Fast Charging Case for RØDE Wireless GO/GO II Review by Matthew Allard ACS

The review is write by Matthew Allard ACS from NewsShooter.

The ZGCINE ZG-R30 Fast Charging Case for RØDE Wireless GO/GO II microphones is able to charge up to 3 RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s at the same time inside a custom case.

Key Features

  • Compatible with Rode Wireless GO/GO II
  • Made of safe fire-retardant material, compact size, easy to carry around
  • Built-in 3000mAh battery with 3 charging slots for up to 3 rode wireless go TX and RX units
  • Intelligent charging system to prevent battery overcharge while achieving fast charging
  • Magnetic opening and closing mechanism
  • Intelligent charging indicator
  • Two USB-C outputs for charging other devices
  • Type-C PD input 5V/2A, 9V/1.4A (MAX)

The charger has physical dimensions of 135mm (L) x 72.5mm (D) x 66mm (H).

While it isn’t what I would call small, it isn’t something that is going to take up a ton of space in a bag.

The charging unit features a built-in 3000mAh battery, so you can charge up to 9 RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s before needing to re-charge the unit. If you are out in the field it is nice to be able to charge up your Wireless GO/GO II’s without needing to find mains power or hook them up individually to USB power banks.

As the charging unit has been custom made for the RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s it is also a convenient place to store them securely.

The custom cut-out spaces for the RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s are clearly laid out and labeled. Even though they are labeled, it doesn’t matter whether you put a TX or an RX unit in any of the charging spots.

I tried charging both RØDE Wireless GO’s and RØDE Wireless GO II’s and they both charged without any issues.

It takes around 2 hours to fully recharge the charging case.

I also tried charging a combination of RØDE Wireless GO’s and RØDE Wireless GO II’s and this also worked without any issues.

The only real downside when charging is you have to open the lid to see the charging progress of the RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s.

The outside battery indicator on the ZG-R30 Fast Charging Case will only show you how much charge is remaining on the internal battery.

You can also charge the internal battery while also continuing to charge the RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s if you plug it into a USB power source.

I also was curious to see if the G-R30 Fast Charging Case got hot at all while it was charging or the internal battery was being charged. The last thing you want to do is put an item in a bag that gets very hot. I found that the G-R30 Fast Charging Case didn’t get hot at all. The outside of the container remained cool. The case is made out of a fire-retardant material which is also nice to know.

The charging case also features temperature protection, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, output overcurrent protection, output anti-reverse protection, output overvoltage protection, and battery overcharge protection.

You can also use it to charge other devices apart from the RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s. On the back of the charger, there are two USB-C outlets so you can hook up and charge your phone, or a GoPro, DJI Osmo Pocket/ Pocket 2, etc.

On the back of the charging case, there is a USB-C input and a USB output.

I tried this out, and yes, it was able to charge other devices while also continuing to charge the RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s.

Build Quality

The ZGCINE ZG-R30 Fast Charging Case is solidly made and the RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s sit inside securely.

The lid has a magnetic catch on it that stops the case from coming open. It has a nice amount of resistance and even if you turn the case upside and shake it the lid will not open.

What do you get?

With the kit, you get the charger, a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable, and a small storage bag. This is basically all you need and I like that you don’t have to go sourcing cables to use with it.

The carry bag is fairly basic, but it is nice that you get one included.

Thoughts

It is slightly ironic that a company that makes its own wireless microphone systems that bear a striking resemblance to RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s is making a charger for the RØDE system. However, the ZGCINE ZG-R30 Fast Charging Case for RØDE Wireless GO/GO II works as advertised and I think it is actually a great solution for charging and storing your mics.

It is nice to be able to keep your RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s in the ZG-R30 Fast Charging Case and know that they are going to be charged and ready to go. This is assuming that you have charged the ZG-R30!

Once everything is charged and disconnected from USB-C power everything remains turned off.

I would have also liked to have seen a little storage compartment in the top of the lid where you could keep one or two lapel microphones.

All in all, this is a nice little product and one I would be definitely looking at if you own RØDE Wireless GO/GO II’s.
